Grammy-winning superstar Chaka Khan to headline Oakland Pride Festival Labor Day weekend

Oakland, CA – August 24, 2010 – The theme for Oakland's inaugural Gay Pride festival is "We Got The Funk" and they are not playing around! The event has booked the legendary singer-songwriter Chaka Khan to headline the Oakland Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender,Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Festival, premiering in Oakland's Uptown District, Sunday, September 5, Labor Day Weekend. The festival will take place from 12pm-6pm on Franklin at 21 street and will take up four city blocks.
Multiple Grammy-winner Chaka Khan is best known for her memorable hit songs "I'm Every Woman," "Ain't Nobody," "I Feel for You," "Tell Me Something Good," and "Through the Fire," among others, will be joined by the legendary Queen of Clubland, dance diva, Martha Wash, Caravansarai-Santana Tribute Band, hip hop artist Yo-Yo, and over sixty artist on four stages.
The Oakland Pride Festival will also include a family and kid friendly area and food and community booths. "You don't need to be LGBTQ to attend." said pride Co-chair Joe Hawkins. "But you should be gay friendly and ready to have a good time." Hawkins added.

Admission is $5 and all are welcome to attend.

We will also feature some of the sexiest go go dancers in town plus contest and giveaways throughout the day. Performers include: The Dance Crew - Final Project, Luz Mirella, Josue Perez, Franchesca, and the Legendary Chaka Khan.
